Are those hackers really gotten that bad nowadays ?
The last I read was that the dupe hack got leaked out publicly just recently. I guess this server side hacking is now the "norm" ... what a pity.

"So, when you chat with a hacker via whisper, chat invite, trade window, fm shop, whatever, they obtain your "Character ID". This is some kinda identification for the server, whether it's numbers or letters or both, I don't know. Anyways, the hacker then logs in normally on his/her account, and instead replaces their Character ID with your Character ID, thus logging into your account.

To elaborate a bit, when you login to MapleStory and click your character, you're essentially clicking a hidden search button that looks for your Character ID in the server's database. So when the hacker logs in, they search for your Character ID instead, thus having access to your account.

If that makes sense, it solves the whole issue as to how a hacker can possibly obtain one's login info through a chat. Here, they don't need any usernames, passwords, or PINs. Just a hidden Character ID"

Honestly it doesn't sound plausible to hack someone else that way. However well knowing how "well" this game is coded anything is possible - the stupidity of Nexon.

Kiwi just to simplify what Danny says. You know when you login to the game, you have user ID, password and PIN right? So what Danny says is if the hacker managed to get you into a chat or trade or any kind of interaction, they will get your user ID right off the bat somehow, this part I can kinda believe is possible. Now the second part of this is kinda unbelieveable if this is possible, what the info means seems to me is that with their own login (+your user ID) any hacker can log in to your account. This part I honestly found rather unbelieveable, but then again knowing how many holes there are in the game codes, I won't treat this as hoax that easily.
